7-Day Stage Confidence
Challenge for Kids
Help your child overcome stage fright before the next school assembly with simple 10-minute daily activities. Designed for children aged 8โ12.
โจ What's Inside This Challenge
- Day-by-day practice schedule (7 days, 10 minutes each)
- Confidence Tracker โ daily self-rating system
- Positive Affirmation Cards โ print and display
- Voice Warm-Up Exercise Sheet
- Eye Contact Activities โ mirror and partner exercises
- Box Breathing Visual Guide
- Parent Checklist โ evening before and morning of assembly
- Teacher Observation Sheet
How to Use This Challenge
Read this page carefully before starting Day 1.
Time Commitment
Each daily session takes 10 minutes only. Do not skip days. Consistency over 7 days matters far more than one long session.
Who Does It
Parent and child do Days 1โ3 together. From Day 4, the child practises independently while the parent observes nearby โ without interrupting.
The Golden Rule
Never correct mid-practice. Only give feedback after each full session. Always start with one genuine compliment before any suggestion.
Important note for parents: Stage fright is a normal biological response โ not a character flaw. The goal of this challenge is not to eliminate nervousness but to build familiarity and confidence so the nervous energy becomes fuel rather than a barrier. Celebrate every attempt your child makes, regardless of how polished it seems.

My notes & reflections:
Write your thoughts here after each practice...
What went well this week:
What I want to improve next time:
Daily Affirmation Cards
Say these aloud every morning โ especially on assembly day. Look in the mirror while you say them. Say each one 3 times.
๐ช
"I am prepared. I know what I want to say."
Say it loudly and clearly, 3 times.
๐ค
"My voice is strong. My words matter."
Take a deep breath before saying this.
๐
"I am ready. I am excited. I can do this."
Smile while saying it โ your brain notices.
๐ง
"Nervousness is my body getting ready for me."
This one rewires how anxiety feels.
๐
"Every time I practise, I get stronger."
Think of one practice win when you say this.
๐
"I am proud of myself for trying."
The most important one. Say it every day.
Voice Warm-Up Exercise Sheet
Do this 5 minutes before speaking on stage. A warmed voice sounds clear, strong, and confident.
๐ต
Exercise 1 โ The Hum
Hum your favourite tune for 60 seconds with lips closed. Feel the vibration in your chest. This relaxes vocal cords and opens the chest cavity. Your voice will sound fuller and calmer after this.
โฑ 60 seconds
๐
Exercise 2 โ Lip & Tongue Activation
Repeat 3 times: Ba-Ba-Ba | Ma-Ma-Ma | Pa-Pa-Pa
Then: "Red lorry, yellow lorry" ร 5 times.
Activates lips and tongue so words sound crisp, not mumbled.
โฑ 90 seconds
๐
Exercise 3 โ Read Aloud Projection
Read any paragraph aloud in a clear, projecting voice as if speaking to the back row of a hall. Slow down at the end of each sentence. Warms projection muscles and removes the thin voice anxiety produces.
โฑ 90 seconds
๐ฌ๏ธ
Exercise 4 โ The Siren Slide
Make a gentle siren sound โ "Weeee-owwww" โ sliding voice from high to low and back. Do 4 times. Loosens your entire vocal range and stops your voice going flat or monotone when nervous.
โฑ 60 seconds
Box Breathing Exercise Guide
The single most effective technique to stop stage fright in its tracks. Takes under 60 seconds. Use it any time, anywhere.
All counts in seconds ยท Repeat 3 complete rounds ยท Keep eyes closed
1
Sit or stand tall. Close your eyes and relax your shoulders down from your ears.
2
Inhale slowly through your nose: count 1 โ 2 โ 3 โ 4. Feel your belly expand.
3
Hold your breath gently: count 1 โ 2 โ 3 โ 4. Keep your body relaxed, not tense.
4
Exhale slowly through your mouth: count 1 โ 2 โ 3 โ 4. Let all the tension out.
5
Hold empty: count 1 โ 2 โ 3 โ 4. Then repeat from Step 2 two more times.
Why it works: Box Breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system โ the body's calm-and-rest mode โ within under 60 seconds. It physically reduces cortisol and adrenaline, stopping the fight-or-flight response before it peaks on stage.
Eye Contact Activity
Practise on Days 2, 3, and 5. Eye contact is one of the fastest ways to build natural stage confidence.
Activity 1 โ Mirror Eye Contact (Days 2 & 3)
- Stand 60 cm from a mirror. Make eye contact with yourself in the mirror.
- Speak your 3 bullet points while maintaining eye contact throughout.
- Every time you look away, gently return your gaze โ no self-criticism, just notice and return.
- Goal: maintain eye contact for at least 80% of the time by Day 3.
Activity 2 โ Partner Triangle (Day 5)
- Set up 3 audience members in different positions around the room.
- While speaking, look at each person for 3โ5 seconds before moving to the next.
- This trains the natural "audience scanning" that makes speakers look confident and connected.
- After the practice: each listener shares one thing they noticed and appreciated.
Assembly Day Tip โ The Friendly Face
- Before stepping on stage, scan the audience for one familiar, friendly face.
- Begin your speech by delivering your first sentence directly to that one person.
- Once started, gradually expand your gaze to include more of the audience.
- Remember: the audience wants you to succeed. They are not looking for mistakes.
Parent Checklist
Use this checklist the evening before and morning of the school assembly.
Evening Before Assembly
Child has reviewed their 3 bullet points โ once, not repeatedly
School uniform, props, and notes are laid out and ready
One relaxed practice run done โ mirror or parent audience
No corrections during the run โ one compliment only afterwards
Child has written one thing they are looking forward to tomorrow
Regular bedtime โ 8โ9 hours of sleep is essential for memory
Screens off 30 minutes before bed
Morning of Assembly
Light, warm breakfast โ no high-sugar foods or skipped meals
Child says 3 affirmations aloud in the mirror with eye contact
One complete Box Breathing round together (4-4-4-4 ร 3 rounds)
Quick glance at 3 bullet points โ no full re-rehearsal
Positive framing from parent: "I'm excited to hear what you say today."
Reminder: "Find your friendly face before you start."
Leave home with enough time โ no rushed departure
After the Assembly
Ask: "What is one thing you did well today?" โ Let them answer first
Give specific praise โ not "Great!" but "I loved how you said your opening line."
Allow them to express how they felt โ listen without immediately analysing
If imperfect: "You stood up there and tried. That takes real courage."
Celebrate โ a favourite snack, outing, or activity. Effort deserves recognition.
